The Parish Council owns and operates the Warborough Sports Pavilion. It is situated in Warborough on the western edge of the village green, on the loop of The Green South and The Green North, right in the heart of the village.
Its primary use is as a cricket pavilion for Warborough & Shillingford Cricket Club, who provide cricket for over 150 players including a thriving junior section and a strong girls’ and women’s section. As well as their own usage, the cricket club occasionally hire the ground out, having prepared a playing surface, which includes use of the pavilion. Should you wish to hire the ground for cricket, please contact the Fixtures Secretary on maypole29@googlemail.com (club website: www.warboroughcricket.com), who will provide the appropriate booking form, liability waiver and conditions for use.
Whilst there is significant cricket usage of the pavilion, therefore, through the summer months, generally weekday evenings and weekend mornings for juniors, and Sunday afternoon for seniors, and occasional third party hire, usually Saturday afternoons, the pavilion is available for private hire at all other times.
The pavilion has been newly refurbished and offers a very smart, panelled club room equipped with a modern prep kitchen (please note there are no cooking facilities, though), refectory tables and benches, changing rooms, WCs, showers and a disabled WC and baby change area. The pavilion looks out over the village green and has an enclosed terrace which can be used with outdoor tables, chairs and benches which are stored in the adjacent equipment shed. There is some parking provision around the adjacent small green, and a larger car park at the far end of the green.
As a precis, here are the main points:
- Hirers have use of the full pavilion facility, including the terrace and outdoor furniture, and may also spill out onto the green in front of the pavilion
- The kitchen has sinks, fridge/freezer, a hot water urn, a microwave and a prep surface for preparing and serving food, but no cooking facilities
- The pavilion is unlicensed so alcoholic drinks can only be sold on receipt by the hirer of a Temporary Events Notice from the District Council
- Capacity depends very much on the type of usage. Indoor capacity is c.30, with tables and benches in the club room which can seat c.15 each, though if using for with standing room only and utilising the outdoor space, capacity is significantly higher
- The hall is available for hire from 8.00am
- Finish time for events is 11.30pm with the pavilion to be cleared by 12 midnight
- No one under the age of 21 can apply to hire the pavilion
- Any event involving young persons up to the age of 21 must have a ‘responsible adult’ involved who will take responsibility for the conduct of the event
- There is some limited parking available on the site, but for larger events it is best to consider minimising car travel where possible
- The Pavilion is professionally cleaned weekly, but hirers must clear up after themselves and leave the pavilion as they found it for the next user – cleaning equipment is readily available in the pavilion.
Booking:
If you wish to request to book the pavilion for a function, please check availability on the live calendar. If the slot you want is shown as available, you can request to book it by filling in the application form– the system will alert the booking clerk who will then follow up as required.
Bookings will always have at least one hour between them for the previous user to tidy up and next user to set up as required – this time is not charged but kept as a mutual buffer for both hirers. If you require more time before or after, please annotate on your booking form and the booking clerk will contact you to discuss.
