Tennis is thriving in the Village- two brilliant new courts, some excellent new coaching arrangements and who could forget the Oktoberfest!

For those new to the Village, our two courts are located by the allotments and the cricket nets and are run by an association founded about 20 years’ ago known as SWATA (Shillingford & Warborough Tennis Association). Membership can be family (£50p.a),single adult(£25) or junior (£10). It is incredibly good value for a lot of fun.

We are always keen to see more people playing and enjoying this great facility and now with the cricket nets and playground nearby there is a really good buzz around the area.

If you are new to the Village or just feel like starting or returning to tennis, do get in touch.

Coaching There are 4 coaching classes on a Saturday morning for 3 terms per year . The Summer term is now open for booking.  The term has just started but there is some availability and may be booked using the following link .

Other regular sessions When no coaching there are informal roll up sessions on Saturday (ladies) and Sunday (men) at 9 a.m. and Friday evening social tennis at 6.00pm. All are welcome.

Bookings and Website Thanks to Alasdair Reay we also now have a website, which also includes an online booking facility at

The SWATA  AGM will be taking place at 7pm Thursday, 25th, at the Manor House , 28 The Green South.   You are all welcome to come along and find out more about SWATA over a glass of wine.  We have a really great Committee to whom I am incredibly grateful but we really need new committee members to keep taking our association forward, with new ideas, support and developing tennis in the Village.  Please consider if you would be happy to join us. It isn’t a huge time commitment I assure you.

Junior Tennis Fun Afternoon in September: This was a great success with over 20 children who had a lot of fun and the Phil Warr Cup for most improved player in the coaching classes was presented to Billy Bain. Many thanks to all who supported this event and especially to Sarah Kilby who provided the Cup and the Committee members and others who produced a delicious tea.

Oktoberfest: This was shared this year between Cricket Club and SWATA and was again a great success. Many thanks to all who supported the event.
