Tennis is thriving in the Village- two brilliant new courts, some excellent new coaching arrangements and who could forget the Oktoberfest!

For those new to the Village, our two courts are located by the allotments and the cricket nets and are run by an association founded about 20 years’ ago known as SWATA (Shillingford & Warborough Tennis Association). Membership can be family (£50p.a),single adult(£25) or junior (£10). It is incredibly good value for a lot of fun.

We are always keen to see more people playing and enjoying this great facility and now with the cricket nets and playground nearby there is a really good buzz around the area.

If you are new to the Village or just feel like starting or returning to tennis, do get in touch.

Coaching There are 4 coaching classes on a Saturday morning for 3 terms per year . The Summer term is now open for booking.  The term has just started but there is some availability and may be booked using the following link .

Bookings and Website Thanks to Alasdair Reay we also now have a website, which also includes an online booking facility at

The SWATA  AGM will be taking place at 7pm Thursday, 3 May, at the Manor House , 28 The Green South.   You are all welcome to come along and find out more about SWATA over a glass of wine.  We have a really great Committee to whom I am incredibly grateful but we really need new committee members to keep taking our association forward, with new ideas, support and developing tennis in the Village.  Please consider if you would be happy to join us. It isn’t a huge time commitment I assure you.

Membership: runs from 1 April to 31 March and subs are now due. Existing members should have received forms already, otherwise these can be obtained from Fiona Reay by email  and returned to Fiona at 10 Henfield View. Payment can be made by cheque or bank transfer. Membership is required for those having coaching but can be family or single. Also, Members renewing for 2018-9 will be able to join the LTA for no charge and be eligible for the 2019 Wimbledon ballot.

Finally, a date for the diary.  On Saturday 1 September, we shall be running a children’s tennis tournament in memory of Phil Warr who was our wonderful village coach over many many years and died so suddenly 10 years ago, leaving Sarah and their two boys.  There will be the opportunity for those children attending coaching to compete in a fun tournament and put their skills to the test.  There will be tea, cakes and refreshments.  More details to follow but do put the date in your diary.

Enjoy your tennis and we hope to see you on Thursday.
